The Iowa Wave
Perspective doesn’t erase our problems. But it can change the way we look at them.

For one quarter, Ohio State and Iowa were fighting to win a football game.
They were chasing points, rankings, and records.
Then everybody stopped.
Everyone in Kinnick Stadium turned toward the children watching from University of Iowa Stead Family Children’s Hospital and waved.
For a few minutes, football didn’t seem quite so important.
That’s a lesson we all need to let soak in.
We can get consumed by work, money, mistakes, arguments, and problems that feel enormous while we’re standing inside them.
And we forget to be grateful for the blessings in our lives because we’re focusing so intently on the problems.
Sometimes we need something to remind us to look around and focus on others.
Perspective doesn’t erase our problems.
But it can change the way we look at them.
